Black Magic Man

Details: Jean Louis is a sorcerer and withdrew from society long ago. He’s been living as a recluse for too many years to remember near the graveyard in his hometown, the village of La Souf, on the island of St. Lucia.

Occasionally, out of necessity, he is forced to venture into the town to pick up supplies. On one of his rare visits to the town, while standing at the bus stop, he sees the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. His eyes keep going back to her as if drawn by some unknown force. At one time, he wouldn’t have hesitated to follow and claim her, but he is getting tired and too old for the game. He gave up lusting after women a long time ago.

But something about this woman sparks his interest. He keeps looking, and just then, a tall, powerfully built man comes out of a store and stands next to her. She appears to have been waiting for him because he takes her hand in his, and they begin walking away. Against his will, as if drawn by some invisible string, Jean Louis begins following them. He wants to memorize everything about her—she is beautiful. It is then he notices the wedding ring on her finger.

Hell, he thinks, she’s married.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t deter him. If anything, he becomes more obsessed with the beautiful woman. Whether she’s married or not, he has to have her, and like a snake slithering away from its discarded skin, he shakes himself and sets about doing what he does best—going after what he wants, and hang the consequences.

SEA-BAND® MAMA

Disclosure: This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Sea-Band Mama. The opinions and text are all mine.
When I was pregnant with my children, I had different cravings with each child, and morning sickness with all of them! With my oldest two, I had terrible morning sickness, and worked throughout both pregnancies. I had an office where I assisted my customers throughout the day, and I had to keep a stash of the food I craved and the food that helped ease the nausea in my desk, to sneak between clients.

Half of all pregnant women will experience morning sickness, and eating small meals throughout the day does help in most cases. But there are also products available now to help as well. SEA-BAND® MAMA is one of these! SEA-BAND® MAMA offers a concentrated Ginger Lozenge with Folic Acid or an Acupressure Wrist Band to help! These are wonderful because they offer Drug Free Relief, No Side Effects, they are effective, the Wrist Band is reusable and washable. (Bonus: They may be used for travel sickness or chemotherapy induced nausea as well.) I currently take a medication for an Auto Immune Disorder that makes me very ill at least one day each week. I do take Folic Acid supplements, but I still battle nausea. I tried the Acupressure Wrist Band this week, and was ecstatic to see that it really made a difference! On the day I’m normally so ill, I had an important appointment that could not be rescheduled, but I was able to keep it and not get sick while I was there.

Know someone who is expecting or experiencing nausea problems? Be sure they watch the Pregnancy Morning Sickness? Drug Free Ways to Reduce Nausea During Pregnancy Video below:

Take control of your credit report with Credit Karma™

Credit Karma™ Logo

Tracking PixelWhen I was in college, I began working at a bank as a part time teller. Over the years I worked very hard and earned several promotions and advancements, eventually becoming a Bank Officer who handled many responsibilities, including approving loans. The training I went through really came in handy years later when I had my identity stolen and had to deal with a lot of stressful financial issues. While I was working as a loan officer, I took the opportunity to try and help my customers, going above and beyond what the job required. It can be challenging to let someone know they haven’t been approved for a loan they’ve applied for, and while it’s not always a surprise to the applicant, people usually know if they have credit problems unless it’s a stolen identity situation, showing kindness and offering tips on ways to improve or build credit can really go a long way. Once someone has been denied a loan, they are typically entitled to a free credit report. I encouraged my clients to bring that in when they received it, and we’d go over it together. Most people don’t fully understand how different factors affect their credit. I am pleased to be joining with Credit Karma™ in this sponsored post opportunity to explain a few of the basics about credit reports, and to let you know that you no longer have to be denied credit to access your credit report for free. Credit Karma™ offers this service every day! No credit card number required to access the information, and it’s updated weekly. Take control of your credit report with Credit Karma™ today!

Credit Karma™ opened in 2007 and since that time has slowly expanded the services they offer. With over 220 million Americans with a credit profile, they are trying to spread awareness about their FREE program. Sadly over 33% of Americans have never checked their credit report, and of those, approximately 25% have errors on their reports. Credit Karma™ has a mission to be pro-consumer, and to help put you back in control of your credit information. They are affiliated with Transunion, so the report you are shown is from one of the three credit bureaus.

The credit score range is from 300-820. A good score to aim for is about 720. However, 83% of Americans have a score below this number. Having a good score will help you get the best interest rates and best benefits, saving you money, and reducing financial related stress! Read more

Remembering Great Christmas Gifts from the Past #ChosenByKids

This is a sponsored post for Walmart, as part of the Chosen By Kids Campaign. All thoughts and opinions expressed are solely my own.
Best Gift I Received as a Child
Christmas-event-300x115
When I was little, we used to always ask for one “big” gift, and then several other smaller gifts that we’d like to have. Our parents would then pass along the smaller gift list to other relatives who wanted ideas of what types of things we were interested in. It worked well for us, and I do the same for my children each holiday season. I have a few gifts that I received that were truly memorable. I remember getting my first Barbie doll, and then having an older girl I looked up to pass down her entire collection to me. I literally spent HOURS playing with those Barbie dolls, and the older ones were among my favorite and treasured items.

Cabbage Patch KidsAnother Christmas, I woke up to find my grandparents in the living room. My younger brother had asthma and had suffered an attack in the middle of the night. My parents had to rush him to the emergency room, and my grandparents came to stay with me. When I came into the living room, I was ecstatic to find a beautiful 3 story doll house waiting for me. I also loved the year that the Cabbage Patch Kids came out, in 1982! I can imagine my parents and grandparents hunting through store after store to find me the doll I really, really wanted. I don’t know what happened to the doll, but I DO still have the certificate that came with her. When we moved across the country, I saw it in a box!

As I got older, my gifts were more about clothes and things that teenagers like. I recall the year I got a combination record player and cassette tape player that held TWO tapes so you could record! I also remember the year my brother and I got our first television sets for our bedrooms!

I remember thinking it was so much fun to get up early and hit the sales on Black Friday. My grandmother liked to give us cash for our gifts, and we could go shopping for what we wanted. I’d spend hours scouring the sales at the mall to stretch those dollars as far as possible, and then wrap them and take them to her house at Christmas, and she’d be thrilled to watch me open them and see what goodies I’d found :) Once I was in high school, and started working at the mall, the Black Friday sales took on another feeling. It’s considerably different when you are the salesperson working the sales, haha! I’d still go shopping after I got off work, to see what goodies I could find. Nowadays I prefer to do my Black Friday shopping online from the comfort of my home though :)

Be sure to visit Walmart Toyland this holiday season to get great deals on the year’s hottest and most wished for toys! I’m excited to be attending an in-house event at my local Walmart store (some have it on Nov 8, others Nov 15) to see what the hottest toys will be, and to get some ideas from my kids about what they’d like this holiday season.

What is your favorite gift that you’ve ever received for the holidays?

My Thoughts: This book is full of monthly calendars, check lists, to do lists, recipes, and decoration ideas for the holidays. It’s broken down into months/holidays, such as Thanksgiving for November, Christmas for December, and New Years for January. I am a list person, and I am quite forgetful. My family knows that if I don’t write something down on a list, there is a good chance it won’t get done! I need checklists and to-do lists to stay on track, and ensure I don’t miss any important details.

I love that this book includes a section for budgeting as well, so you can plan down to the smallest detail, and make sure you’re still within the budgeted amount for each holiday or event. It also includes a section for a guest list, menu, things to buy, grocery list, and cooking schedule. This is something I already do, but it takes a good bit of time to really think it all through and plan it out so that the holiday meal is prepared on time, and that you have not forgotten anything important. For Christmas, it also includes wish lists, gift liusts, gift tags, Christmas Card list, and a Thank You note list!

Christmas in Snow Valley is only $.99 until November 8th.

Snow Valley, Montana, is a small community with the tradition of doing Christmas big. Festivities begin with tree lighting in the town square the day after Thanksgiving and continue until the culminating romantic Christmas Ball. From the Polar Express to a Winter Carnival, there’s something for every wonder-filled  child—and every couple who’s in love—or about to be.

An Unexpected Kiss by Cindy Roland Anderson

Lucy Phillips doesn’t want to spend her Christmas vacation dodging her ex-boyfriend, so when he turns up at the airport to give her a ride home, Lucy panics and asks a complete stranger to kiss her. Although the kiss is incredible, Lucy never expects to see the guy again. Is it bad luck or destiny when Lucy comes down with a sore throat and the new doctor in Snow Valley is none other than the guy she kissed at the airport?

Feels Like Love by Jeanette Lewis

Christmas in Snow Valley is the perfect way for April Winston to introduce her city slicker fiancé, Scott Mecham, to life on a farm. If only Wade Hadley, hometown boy and high school sweetheart, will cooperate! But Wade has no intention of letting April go without a fight. This Christmas, Wade is determined to overcome their painful past and show April that she already has what she’s been seeking all along.

Full Court Devotion by Cami Checketts

Kazlyn is too busy with her schooling and future plans to enjoy life, let alone fall in love with a man who has heartbreak written all over him. Tyrese Hamilton, a college basketball star and major heartthrob, is intrigued when Kazlyn doesn’t pursue him or even seem interested. Ty’s career is in jeopardy, and he needs a miracle and Kazlyn to save him.

The Christmas Eve Kiss by Taylor Hart

When Molly O’Hare gets a prediction that she will kiss her true love on Christmas Eve, she thinks it’s utterly ridiculous. But when she gets teamed up with Kevin Snow, aka her ex-boyfriend, to decorate a Christmas tree, things start to change. Too bad getting over the past is hard and seeing him kiss another girl is even harder. Now Molly is left with a choice—run away from home and heartbreak or let Christmas work out a miracle all of its own.

Risking it all for Love by Award-Winning author, Kimberley Montpetit

Ever since her high school boyfriend’s death from a car accident three years earlier, Jessica Mason and her hometown of Snow Valley, Montana with all its awful memories have NOT been compatible. Running away to New Orleans on a ballet scholarship, Jessica cringes when she thinks about confronting Pastor John and the community church–she doesn’t want to talk about God, not after He took Michael, the boy she was going to marry ever since third grade.

In the local scene of funky New Orleans, Jessica seeks out Madame LaBlanc, hoping Michael will absolve her of her guilt the night of the car accident in a seance, but the spirit world is silent and she fears the grief will drown her.

Finally succumbing to family pressure, Jessica reluctantly returns for Christmas – and the little town of Snow Valley does Christmas BIG. When she visits Michael’s grave in the church yard, Jessica is shocked to meet handsome James Douglas, Pastor John’s nephew, who’s studying for the ministry. No, she is NOT going to be attracted to someone who wants to be a preacher! Definitely not compatible! But James Douglas is unlike any minister-in-training she’s ever met. James can not only dish back Jessica’s finely-tuned sarcasm but understands grief all too well, turning Jessica’s world upside down.

Can Jessica forgive herself for that terrible, fateful night? Can she take another risk on love?

Blue Christmas by Lucy McConnell

As head of Snow Valley hospital’s fundraising effort, Paisley Hackett barely has time to organize the craft show, cookie decorating party, and the annual Christmas Ball. What she doesn’t have time for is falling in love with Clay Jett, the incredibly handsome bass player who sweeps into town. She’s been burned by a tourist romance before and, with everything going on, Paisley will have to work overtime to protect her heart from Clay and his swoon-worthy ballads.

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed each of these novellas. Although it was late October when I read them, it really started getting me in the holiday spirit! These are light-hearted chick-lit Christian Romance stories, (perfect for Lifetime or Hallmark movies!), so they are intended to be quick, clean, fun reads. It’s easy to be captured by each story quickly, and feel a connection to the characters. Each story is independent of the others, but you get a sense of small town love and unity throughout the set. Although it’s not a series, there are characters that overlap in some of the stories. There is a nice mix of new residents, long time residents, and former residents returning for the holidays, which made it easy for me to relate to. We’ve moved a lot and are newish residents in our small town! I’d recommend these to anyone looking for a few quick stories to get them in the holiday spirit!

$100 Amazon Giftcard and a Philips SonicCare PowerUp Toothbrush #Giveaway {Nov 1 ONLY}

Sponsored
National Brush Day

Bloggin’ Mamas is supporting the Ad Council and The Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives (a coalition of more than 35 leading dental health organizations) by sharing the word about “National Brush Day.”

National Brush Day is observed on November 1st, the day after Halloween, to reinforce the importance of children’s oral health and to promote good tooth-brushing habits recommended by dental experts.

More than 51 million school hours are lost each year due to dental related illness, resulting in parents losing 25 million work hours annually. Cavities and oral infections can cause severe pain and can increase a child’s risk for dental issues and poor health throughout their lives.

3 in 4 parents report that their kids sometimes or frequently forget to brush their teeth, according to a national survey just released by the Ad Council. In an effort to help parents better understand why ignoring dental health can have serious consequences, and educate families about good dental health habits, the Ad Council and The Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives created new Public Service Ads (PSAs) for their Kids’ Healthy Mouths campaign. The new PSAs are humorous depictions of life lessons which make the point that while parenting can be tricky at times, getting kids to brush for two minutes, twice a day can be easier than most other things parents will try to teach their children.

Visit 2min2x.org (which is available in English and Spanish, and includes a mobile version), where parents and children can watch entertaining videos—all 2 minutes in length—while brushing their teeth.

Resources

o Here are some new PSA videos: http://2min2x.org/campaign-materials/;

o Fun 2-minute videos that will keep your kids brushing for 2 whole minutes:

o Take the 2min2x Text Challenge with your kids!

o Make brushing fun with the free Toothsavers App: http://2min2x.org/toothsavers/;

o Promote or enter the Zooppa.com video contest for a chance to win $20,000: In addition to the new PSAs, the campaign will be kicking off its first video contest called #BrushRules leveraging Zooppa.com, the world’s leading crowd sourced marketing platform for producing creative content. Parenting is hard to do. Getting your kids to brush their teeth for two minutes, twice a day is one aspect that’s easier and can make a big impact on a child’s life.
