Need Glasses for Back to School?
As the back to school season approaches, we’ve been trying to get in all of our specialist check ups, because it’s easier to do when I don’t have to worry about checking the kids out of school early, and they miss important instruction time. Aaron and I had the first two appointments, because I knew I needed new glasses, and was fairly certain Aaron would as well. Joshua and Logan got a good report on their visit, each with 20/20 vision.
We have a good vision insurance plan, that covers most of the cost of new glasses. It covers a specific dollar amount on frames once every two years, and a specific dollar amount on lenses once per year. When I selected my glasses, I still had to pay more than I expected for basic lenses and frames at the Optometrist. I knew of a sale at a department store where we would get Aaron’s glasses (more on that coming soon!), but I was concerned about mine. My prescription changed, which is a contributing factor to the headaches I’ve been getting. I am a planner by nature, so my next thought was to wonder what am I supposed to do if I need new lenses next year, and I can’t get new frames? I can’t see at all without my glasses, so I can’t send in my frames to have the lenses updated, because it takes 2 weeks for them to be created.
There are many online resources where you can get glasses MUCH cheaper than the Optometrist. I was surprised to see that it is even less expensive than what I paid WITH good vision insurance. I thought I’d share this link with you, in case any of you are in the same dilemma, preparing for your kids (or yourself) to go back to school.
GlassesUSA.com is offering a sale right now, for up to 50% off and FREE Shipping. When I clicked through, it told me I could sign up for the VIP newsletter and get 70% off my first pair. It says it’s a JULY Special, so I don’t know how long that will last. For example, I found a pair of prescription sunglasses for $48 (frames, lenses, and shipping). That is much lower than anything I’ve seen in a local store.
